Accessibility
How to use accessibility features on the Life Services Group website, including access keys, font sizes, style sheets and accessible PDFs.
Our commitment
People come to this website at one of the hardest moments of their lives, often in a hurry and often upset. It should not also be difficult to use. We want everyone to be able to find a funeral director, understand what we do and get in touch with us, whatever their sight, hearing, mobility or understanding.
As a service provider in the UK, we have a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a disadvantage. We take that seriously, and we would rather hear from you than have you struggle in silence.
If anything on this site gets in your way, please tell us. There are details further down this page, and we will do what we can to put it right and to help you in the meantime.
The standard we are working to
We are working to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at level AA. These are the international guidelines most widely used to judge whether a website can be used by disabled people, and they cover things such as colour contrast, text size, keyboard use and how well a page works with a screen reader.
This site is new and we are still building parts of it, so we are not claiming that every page meets that standard today. Where we find something that falls short, we fix it, and we would rather say so plainly than imply the work is finished.
Making this website easier to use
Your computer, phone or tablet has settings built into it that work on this site and on every other site you visit. You do not need to install anything, and they are usually quicker than people expect.
- Make everything bigger. Hold down Ctrl and press + on Windows, or Command and + on a Mac. On a phone or tablet, look for text size in your settings.
- Change the colours or contrast. Windows, macOS, iPhone and Android all have high contrast and dark mode settings, and ways to reduce motion if animation is uncomfortable.
- Have the page read aloud. Windows has Narrator, Macs and iPhones have VoiceOver, and Android has TalkBack. All are free and already on your device.
- Use the keyboard instead of a mouse. The Tab key moves between links and buttons, and Enter opens the one you have landed on.
AbilityNet, a UK charity, has clear step-by-step guides for all of this on its My Computer My Way website. It covers most devices and is free to use.
If you would rather not use the website
Nothing on this site has to be done online. Everything here can be done by talking to a person instead, and that is often easier when you are arranging a funeral.
- Call us. Our funeral directors are available to talk things through, and our branches answer the phone at any hour.
- Come in and see us. You can find your nearest funeral director on this site, or ask us to find one for you.
- Ask someone to act for you. A family member, friend or carer can speak to us on your behalf, and you are welcome to bring someone with you to any appointment.
If you need an interpreter, a British Sign Language interpreter, or information in large print, easy read, braille or audio, ask us and we will arrange it. Please give us as much notice as you can so that it is ready when you need it.
Documents and forms
Some of the documents on this site are PDFs, including brochures, price lists and published reports. Older PDFs, and ones produced for print, are not always easy to read with a screen reader.
If you cannot read a document we have published, tell us which one and we will get the information to you another way, in a format that works for you. There is no charge for this.
Tell us about a problem
If you find something on this website you cannot use, or you need information in a different format, please get in touch. It helps if you can tell us the page you were on and what happened, but do not worry if you cannot — we would still rather hear from you.
